Becoming who God longs for you to be.

This week's devotional is from Pastor Ben Kerns.

ENCOUNTER:  Read Psalm 139:23-24

Trying to figure out what tree we are or attempting to figure out how to change this can be overwhelming.  Thankfully the solution is NOT try harder.

Jesus is not interested in your trying harder to be a better person.  Jesus is interested in transforming you from the inside out.  This means simply partnering with Him and allowing space for him to speak to you, reveal things to you, and then be faithful to follow down the road He leads.

Michelangelo was asked how he made such incredible sculptures.  He responded that the sculptures were always there in the marble,  and his job was to simply remove the parts of the marble that didn’t belong.

You too are God’s masterpiece.  You are a big chunk of marble and God simply wants you to partner with him to make space in your life to listen, hear, and respond to the Spirit of God.

This passage in Psalms is the best template for reflective prayer.  So, why not take a few minutes, be quiet and ask God the questions in this passage, be silent and listen, and then write down what he reveals.

BE REFLECTIVE:

When you search me, you know my heart.  What is going on inside of me, in my heart?

Test my and know my anxious thoughts?  Just like a test in school, how would you grade my life and walk with you?

Would you point out anything in me that offends you?

Where do you want to lead me? What are you asking me to no longer do?  What are you asking me to do?
