By the power of Grayskull!!! (I mean the Holy Spirit!)

This week's devotional is from Pastor Ben Kerns.

ENCOUNTER:  Read Ephesians 3:14-21

For many of us we have a He-Man theology of the power of the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit is God, the Holy Spirit lives in us when we become Christians, and therefore we can do all things through His power.

Like He-Man, we think just because we have the "Power Sword" we have power to conquer just about anything.  But for many of us, when we have tried to wield that power, we have come up short.

in this passage in Ephesians we are told that we will be able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or even imagine by the power at work with in us.  This is an incredible statement.  And one when we put it into practice often leaves us wanting.  But maybe that is because we are a little to short sighted and self focused in our prayers and petitions towards Jesus.

What if God is inviting us to be bold in our prayer life and that boldness is all around the things God is passionate about?  Praying for Jesus to be honored and glorified, for the poorest and neediest to be cared and comforted.  What would it look like to ask God to grow our imagination for what God might long to do in the world, and in our world?  What would it look like to be open handed with all the gifts, resources, and influence that God has given to us so that we can be leveraged for the Kingdom of God?

As we mature in Christ we will dream, imagine, and ask greater and greater things.  And God's power will be at work in us as he pomps us, pushes us, uses us to bring Him glory!

BE REFLECTIVE:

What do you dream up when you pray to God?  What do you normally pray for, what things do you bring before God?   For me, my comfort and glory are the answer to these questions.

Ask God to grow your imagination for what God could and should do in our world and in your community.  Write those things down and try praying about if every day for the next week.  See if God answers, refines, or redirects.

BE A BLESSING:

How would your prayer life change and your faith grow if you saw yourself not as the receiver of God's power and love, but a vessel of it for the blessing of others?

Who's prayer can you answer today?

BE TOGETHER:

Invite your friends or family into the process.  For, where two or more are gathered, Jesus is there!  Live into that reality and see what happens!
